Ivan,

No, there was no special reason for that. It was just that the
SPOOFSOURCE code was bolted on as an afterthought (and I find
binutils intimidating).
I agree that being able to run "./configure --enable-source-spoofing"
to have it add the necessary flag to the Makefile would be an
improvement.
